Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Fluids
The Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Fluids (CIRF), established in 2022, aims to strengthen the basic research of fluid mechanics through multidisciplinary integration and to explore the multi-scale non-equilibrium flows and transport phenomena that widely exist in nature and engineering. Relying on the high-level research platform of the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Centre focuses on the multi-physics and multi-chemistry evolution mechanism of multi-scale non-equilibrium flow, integrates physical modeling, numerical simulation and experimental research, and conducts cross-disciplinary cutting-edge researches to promote the transformation of basic research results and breakthroughs of prospective technologies in response to the key needs of scientific and technological development. The centre is committed to fostering an excellent scientific research environment, helping talents to grow with the center, and actively promoting exchanges and cooperation between the Institute of Mechanics and domestic and international research institutions in the direction of interdisciplinary basic research in fluid mechanics.
Focusing on scientific research and talent cultivation, the center strengthens its ability to sustain innovation and lead academic development through forward-looking development strategies, effective resource allocation, and standardized management mechanisms. The center integrates the existing scientific research strength, introduces and cultivates talents, and strengthens domestic and international scientific research cooperation. The center will focus on major scientific problems by major projects, focus on original innovation, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and promote basic research to expand into emerging disciplines and key areas, with the goal of becoming the world's leading base for basic scientific research and talent cultivation in the field of multiscale non-equilibrium flow and transport, providing theoretical support and knowledge reserve for technological innovation, and supporting the major needs of the country.
